nubag3.jpgThe purposes and duties of the Nuclear Sciences Application and Research Center, which was established as a unit affiliated to the Rectorate of Akdeniz University in accordance with the second paragraph of the 7th article of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 (d), have been determined by the Central Regulation, which came into force after being published in the Official Gazette No. 28663 on May 31, 2013.

The aim of Akdeniz University Nuclear Sciences Application and Research Center is; To contribute to the making of economic and strategic plans for the sustainable use of natural and cultural resources by making use of the opportunities offered by nuclear technologies and radiation applications, which are one of the most important science and technology fields of the last quarter of the 20th century and the 21st century.

Nuclear science constitutes an important field among technological and scientific studies studied at the level of nuclei and elementary particles. Its main purpose is to study nuclear interactions and to understand and classify the structural properties of the nucleus. Although the experimental and theoretical studies in this field are difficult, the results obtained have a great share in meeting the technology and energy needs. In addition, non-destructive testing, which provides both diagnostic and therapeutic use in medicine, quality control and damage detection, trace element analysis in basic sciences and radiography are just a few of the areas of use.

Following the nuclear studies in the world since the development of modern physics, a research reactor was established under the control of the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency as a first step, giving importance to the studies in this field in Turkey. However, today, the relevant units of many state and foundation universities have accelerated experimental studies on nuclear physics.

In the research part, we have focused our attention on nuclear reaction cross-section calculations, MCNPX and Monte Carlo applications in medical terms, and nuclear code and simulation trainings for graduate and doctoral program students in general. In addition, we have accelerated our work on this issue by cooperating with CERN. Our efforts in this regard are still ongoing and we continue our research without slowing down.

Our Mission

To follow the developments and innovations in various fields of Nuclear Science, to increase qualified manpower with various courses, seminars, workshops and conferences, to conduct research for the benefit of universal science and society.

Our vision

To be a leader among organizations that both conduct research and provide education in the field of Nuclear sciences and applications in Turkey, and reach a level that can compete with various laboratories that will contribute to the institutions of the country and similar organizations abroad.
